چکیده
This paper presents an overview of trends in low power handset SDR implementations. With the market for SDR-enabled handsets expected to grow to 200M units by 2014, the barriers to efficient handset implementations – both hardware and software – have been removed based on new and innovative architectures. We describe advances in DSP architectures and compilers that are enabling SDR handset implementations and present some results for a specific

Reconfigurable Analog to Digital Converters for Low Power Wireless Applications
The commercialization of Marconi’s radio transmission and reception, along with the development of integrated circuits in the 1960’s have facilitated many new consumer products for wireless communication, where the mobile phones or handsets are one. These handsets started out as a portable phone, mounted in cars, and have with time added additional services as Short Message Service, and have to...
متن کاملFpga Prototyping of Configurable Sampling Rate Converter for Software Defined Radio (csr-sdr) Using Cic Filter
ASoftware Defined Radio (SDR) system is a radio communication system, which uses software for modulation and demodulation of radio signals. In software defined radio (SDR) receivers, high-precision clock with very low jitter is required. It is intuitive to use only one fixed master clock. However, different wireless standards use different master clock rates. Under such circumstances, digital s...
متن کاملAdvanced Wireless Communications Technologies for Low Power, Reconfigurable Small Satellite Radios
Advances in smart antennas, coding theory, power amplifiers, low-power electronics, and softwaredefined radios have dramatically impacted terrestrial communications. The improvements achieved in frequency reuse, interference mitigation, handset battery life, error performance, and hardware reconfigurability can be transitioned to small satellite communications systems. The stringent power budge...
متن کاملA Comparison of RF Exposure in Macro- and Femtocells
This paper assesses radio frequency exposure of a mobile handset user in the context of a new class of cellular base station: the femtocell. Traditional cellular network construction relies on using a single base station to cover a large area and serve dozens to hundreds of users. The femtocell (named after the minuscule size of the coverage area) provides a low-power in-home cellular connectio...

The wireless industry has evolved to enable high bit-rate communications, and the WCDMA system has emerged as a 3G standard. There is enormous pressure to reduce the size, cost, and power consumption of the mobile phone. While digital circuits have experienced tremendous power saving with the progress of deep sub-micron processes, the analog/RF sections remain the bottleneck in reducing the dc ...
